Magnetic Resonance Imaging is based on the use of a strong magnetic field and radio waves to image organs and structures in the body.

MRI scans are not painful but can be uncomfortable due to the increased noise level (banging sounds) or the need to lie still for a long time.

The duration of the examination usually ranges from 20 to 50 minutes, depending on the type and extent of the examination.

Side effects are rare but may include a temporary feeling of warmth or discomfort in the part of the body being examined.

We do not perform magnetic resonance imaging in women in the 1st trimester of pregnancy. We ask pregnant women to inform their doctor before the examination. Magnetic resonance imaging in the later stages of pregnancy is considered safe. We do not perform examinations with contrast agents.

Yes, they may.  For children and patients suffering from claustrophobia or severe pain, an accompanying person has the option to be present at the examination in agreement with the radiological assistant. It is only required to fill in a questionnaire for accompanying persons before they enter the examination room.

Yes. The examination can also be performed on patients who wear fixed braces. However, metal that is close to the area to be scanned might affect the quality of the images obtained.

  • It is important to explain everything in advance.
  • Describe the machine as a giant camera or a space shuttle
  • The investigation will be accompanied with a lot of noise. Your child will get hearing protectors – headphones
  • The parent (legal guardian) may be present during

A properly completed examination request form for the examination and a valid health insurance card.
Preferably bring documentation and medical reports from previous examinations. (of the area to be examined on the MRI).

In most cases YES. The diameter of the gantry/tunnel is 70 cm.  By appointment, it is possible to try it out in advance.

During the examination, unpleasant sounds resembling the banging of a hammer are usually heard. This is the natural sound of the machine and is nothing to be concerned about. You will be given ear protectors before the examination.

The MRI scan is painless, but some patients may feel uncomfortable because they have to lie very still throughout the scan. You may have a feeling of fear of confined spaces and sensation of warmth in the area being examined. These sensations are normal, but you can inform the investigating staff at any time using the signalling balloon.  Thanks to modern scanners, it is now possible (for some examinations) to position the patient's head outside the scanner, i.e., a position where the legs pass through the scanner, but the patient's head does not.

We recommend keeping a time reserve to travel to us. Before the examination itself, the informed consent to the MRI examination must always be completed. It is necessary to arrive for the examination 15 minutes earlier, before the appointment for which you are scheduled.

If the examination is of the small intestine (MR enterography) it is necessary to arrive 90 minutes earlier, before the examination itself.

The imaging part is available immediately after the examination:

  • at the request of the referring physician via e-PACS
  • uploaded to a flash drive purchased here (according to the current price list) and handed over to the patient

The result in written form is produced within 7 working days.

Possibility of delivery:
